Peridotite Basin

Weathered river boulder of peridotite from Curry County, Oregon. Peridotite is rarely seen at the surface of the earth, but makes up much of the mantle; earth's rocky interior. This peridotite was dredged up from the depths in the plate tectonic collision that formed SW Oregon. The golden color around the outside is the result of thousands of years of weathering.
