Rhyolite Fountain

Weathered rhyolite lava on a base of Columbia River basalt, pivot mount. Collected near Prineville, Oregon.
Rhyolite lava is very thick and pasty when it erupts, and tends to develop layering and banding as it slowly flows from the vent. Groundwater dissolves and re-precipitates iron and other minerals to paint the flow layers in a variety of colors. The fountain shape is another that I am attracted to when I search for stones to work with.
Height 8".
