This piece was made to accompany the Oregon Origins project "Seven Wonders" premiere held at Reed College in Portland, Oregon, May 19, 2023. The program included music for string quartet composed by Matthew Packwood and inspired by seven of Oregon's most beautiful geologic landscapes. The music was accompanied by an original dance piece by Makino Hayashi, followed by the story of the geology by Ian Madin.
This piece represents the cliffs and slopes of the steep eastern face of Steens Mountain in far southeast Oregon, which rises almost 6000 feet above the dry lakebed of the Alvord Desert.
