Snow Stone
This Timestone is made of tuff, a volcanic rock that formed 40 million years ago when a caldera 8 miles in diameter blasted billions of tons of hot ash, pumice and rock into the sky. The cloud of hot ash rained down around the caldera blanketing the surrounding area with a blizzard of pumice and ash which compacted into a solid rock. The white fragments are pumice and the black are pieces of older rock ripped from the throat of the volcano, both floating in a matrix of pink ash.
The base for this Timestone is sandstone that was deposited over the ancient exotic terranes some 45 million years ago by a submarine landslide. This piece has been tumbled by a river, leaving it rounded and smoothed.
